Procrastination.......the evil twin of ambition

I have been thinking of starting a blog for quite some time and everyday I tell myself tomorrow is a better day than today. Now that I don’t have any excuse I thought of taking the plunge.

Believe it it’s quite an effort to get over the habit of procrastination. That's the reason I decided to write my first ever blog on procrastination.

Procrastination refers to the habit of putting off any activity till another day or time. Several studies across the globe show that around 95% of world’s population procrastinates. People procrastinate on virtually everything — writing blogs,
filing taxes, visiting doctor for routine checkup, vehicle’s annual service, making lifestyle changes, beginning retirement savings etc etc . In short, everything important.
Procrastination on important issues has serious implications. In this blog I will try to share insight on how to get over procrastination (and hopefully I will walk the talkJ)

To solve procrastination problem, take a piece of paper and write on it in big bold letters, "You are a procrastinator, and you will destroy all your dreams if you do not learn to control your-self!" Keep this in your shirt pocket or anywhere you can see it all the time. Preferably stuck this paper on a wall right in front of where you sit. This will make you constantly aware of it and will keep you away from slipping and remind you not to procrastinate!

I have been thinking over the last 10 mins to comment on this blog..everytime thinking.."will do it in a while"..but here I am commenting and getting over my habit of procrastination. :)
This would have been a better blog, if you would have had expanded more on the title..why is it the evil twin of ambition? (ahh..or is it something the readers are supposed to understand..gosh !!)
Approaching your blog, i was mentally prepared to read about inflation, corruption, implications and world economy. But Mr. Damani, you have surprised me. Not quite sure if the "carry the note" thing is practical enough....but heyy, its worth a try.

Intersting thoughts indeed!! I appreciate this thought process that procrastinatation is indeed the EVIL TWIN of Ambition and Everyone experiences the desire to procrastinate. For one reason or another, nothing is harder than doing the one task that needs to get done. People go to great lengths — create excuses, find other work, or even hide — to avoid a dreaded task. Usually time spent procrastinating is simply wasted, but it doesn’t have to be the way it is... So one of the commandents which one should follow in his life is " DO NOT PROCRASTINATE and NEVER REGRET ".

I cant agree less with you what you have written. I have been wanting to start my own blog for over a couple of years now. Your post has atleast made me start by commenting on a blog :)
I think your post ended a little too soon, probably procrastination crept in and made you stop early :)
Ambition and Procrastination can be personified as Kane and Able. One Good and the other Evil. But how evil is really evil? May be 95% people procrastinate but are all of them really not ambitious. Sometimes ambitions are so much priority driven that certain things that may keep you happier take a back seat. Its a rat race out here in the real world and people procrastinate just to achieve their long term ambitions by putting some important things in life on a HOLD. Not sure if the paper thingy would work, but worth a try surely. How about getting up everyday and looking yourself in the mirror and telling yourself the same thing. Its hard to face yourself when you say demeaning things about yourself :). Just a thought....

I don't think most people procrastinate on important things due to any unimportant reason or laziness... There are so many constraints that we face everyday in life, financial, social, professional, time... Everyone is fighting a battle... you cannot survive unless you prioritize... Let me give an example: I have a routine doctor checkup pending, but if I don't buy grocery, take my dog to the vet and cleanup the house during the weekend, being a working woman, I will be facing other problems during the weekdays... So I have to put off the doctor checkup to some other weekend... Everyday we face situations, where we have to decide whether to do this or that and we choose one and procrastinate for the other one... can't help it :)...
